The University has a comprehensive set of arrangements for handling and storing waste to ensure as much as possible is recycled.
Halls of Residence
If you live in University halls of residence, recycling bags and black bags can be collected from the Accommodation Office reception. Please place your recycling and black bags at the recycling stations, in the appropriate bins provided.
Students are encouraged to empty their bins regularly. Waste is collected from the recycling stations on a Monday and Friday.
Any electrical items which require disposal must be brought to the Accommodation Office.
If you live off campus, recycling bags can be collected from a number of locations throughout Rhonnda Cynnon Taf, including the Treforest Post Office. For more information on what can be recycled, refuse collection days, recycling bag collection points, etc., please visit the RCT council Rubbish, Waste and Recycling page.
If you live in the Cardiff area, recycling bags can be delivered to your door by the council if ordered on the council website or collected from one of the stocklists. For more information visit the Cardiff Council Recycling and Waste page.
Alternatively, Cardiff Digs provides useful information on recycling and waste in Cardiff.
Halls of Residence
If you live in University halls of residence, recycling boxes are provided in kitchens. These can be used for cans, plastic, glass, paper, and cardboard recycling. Please use the boxes to transport your recycling to the external green and yellow wheelie bins provided.
These are emptied once a week on a Wednesday.
General waste must be placed in the blue and yellow 'Amber’ wheelie bins. These are emptied on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday every week.
If you have any waste electrical items please take them to the Accommodation Office for safe recycling.
Additional facilities are provided at the end of the Summer Term for recycling unwanted items when moving out of accommodation.
If you live off campus, more information on what can be recycled, collection dates etc, can be found on the Newport Council Waste and Recycling webpage.
Charities and your local charity shop willingly accept reusable household items and goods. Don’t throw away what can be reused for a good cause. Age Concern and Help the Aged also accept foreign currency, inkjets/toners and mobile phones for recycling.
