We are here to provide assistance and to offer support to students, staff and visitors at the University. Our main function is to ensure, as far as is possible, the personal safety of students, staff and visitors; the security of University buildings and other property; the control of traffic and parking.
The Security Management Team consists of Andrew Moore (Manager), Christopher Beazer (Assistant Manager) who cover Pontypridd, Cardiff, The Sport Park and Newport.
In addition, Security Officers operate on a continuous shift pattern to provide cover for the University at its various Campuses and Halls of Residences. The officers are deployed on a patrol and response basis, performing foot and mobile patrols throughout the campuses.
Security Control Centre
The Universities CCTV Control Centre operates 24 hours a day, every day, and is located in the Security Lodge Main Campus. During normal opening hours Security can be located in the following locations: Anzani House Glyntaff, Main Reception Atrium and Main Reception Newport. The Control Centre staff operate a radio system, monitor alarms, CCTV across all campuses and acts as the primary line of communication for members of the university and as a link to the emergency services.
A comprehensive CCTV Camera system operates throughout the University campuses. The cameras are monitored and the images are recorded digitally in accordance with the Data Protection principles. Still pictures can be acquired from the video image if required. Video records can be used as evidence of crimes committed against University Staff, Students, Visitors or property. The cameras, in conjunction with two-way radios, are used to great effect, directing security staff to incidents, observing, following and apprehending intruders, or suspected criminals. Crimes and incidents should be reported to the Police, and also inform the University’s Security team to allow us to maintain our incident records.
